1. Photo leaked by Xiaomi executive shows triple camera setup for Mi 9 - Xiaomi's next flagship phone, the Mi 9, is expected to be unveiled later this month. Today, photos of a phone that allegedly is the Mi 9, appeared on a Weibo site belonging to Xiaomi product manager Wang Teng Thomas (via SlashLeaks). The images were later removed, although others captured the photos. Both pictures only reveal the back of the handset, but it still provided us with some important information.
The photograph does make it appear that the rumors about a triple camera setup on the Mi 9 are accurate. Based on the images, the cameras are vertically mounted


2. Malware filled camera beauty and filter apps removed from Google Play Store - Security firm Trend Micro (via SlashGear) has found 29 "beauty camera" and camera filter apps in the Google Play Store loaded with malware inside. These apps, popular in Asia, are supposed to enhance selfies and customize photos. Instead, apps with the names of Beauty Camera, Pro Beauty Camera and Horizontal Beauty camera served full screen ads when users unlocked their phones. One of the ads, when tapped, downloaded an online porn player that didn't work even after payment from the user was accepted.


3. Samsung Galaxy A90 rumored to feature pop-up selfie camera like Vivo NEX - Samsung is set to copy Vivo and launch a smartphone with pop-up selfie camera. Smartphone makers are trying hard to offer phones with full-screen display and no notch and in that quest, the two solutions that have come on top is that of hole punch display and elevating selfie camera. While Samsung has already launched a hole punch display smartphone in China called the Galaxy A8s, it is set to launch a smartphone with pop-up selfie camera next.
According to popular leakster Ice Universe, the upcoming smartphone in the Galaxy A-series will be the first Samsung phone to have such a design. The tipster says that the device will be called Galaxy A90 and will be Samsung’s first in the market with a pop-up selfie camera. He also adds that the phone will have no notch or hole and offer a perfect viewing experience. Samsung has been trying to make its Galaxy A-series stand out for bringing innovative design and new industry features. The Galaxy A7, Galaxy A9 and Galaxy A8s all brought new features and it is no surprise that the first pop-up camera phone belongs to Galaxy A-series as well.


4. Samsung Galaxy S9+ gets price cut in India ahead of Galaxy S10 launch - Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy S10 series at an event in San Francisco on February 20. The Korean electronics giant is expected to introduce three devices – the Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, at the event this month. The devices could be joined by a foldable smartphone and a 5G version of the Galaxy S10+ for select markets such as the United States, Korea and China. With the Galaxy S10 launch getting closer, it only makes sense for the company to announce discount on older models. In India, the company has silently reduced the price of Galaxy S9+, the larger variant of its 2018 flagship.



5. Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi working on a Snapdragon 855 powered flagship smartphone - Xiaomi’s Redmi brand has always focused on entry-level and mid-range smartphone segments. But, now that Redmi has been turned into an independent sub-brand, it has set its sights on flagship smartphone segment as well. After seeing success with the launch of Redmi Note 7, the first smartphone without Xiaomi branding, the sub-brand of Chinese smartphone maker is looking at the launch of Redmi Note 7 Pro and another flagship smartphone.
The company is working on a flagship device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 this year. The information comes courtesy of Lu Weibing, who posted a photo of him with rest of the Redmi crew at Xiaomi’s Shenzhen R&D Institute, discussing the future of Redmi as a brand and its upcoming device. Weibing, in the photo shot with a Redmi Note 7, says that the team spoke about two phones in details and indicated that it is ready to ship a premium smartphone under the Redmi brand. For now, neither Xiaomi nor Weibing have shared any details about this flagship smartphone but it has confirmed the use of Qualcomm flagship Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.

1. Valentine’s Day 2019: Apple iPhone XR gets an unofficial price cut, now starts at Rs 70,500 - It’s February and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and with that comes the flowers, chocolates and gifts. And it does not need a geek to know that Apple iPhones are rather stable and the iPhone XR which comes in some fancy colors is a prime gifting option on this Valentine’s Day. Even though Apple has not reduced the price of its most recent launch, the iPhone XR, a Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom has tweeted that it is going to sell the 64GB variant of the smartphone at a discounted price of Rs 70,500, while the 128GB and 256GB models are priced at Rs 75,500 and Rs 85,900, respectively.


2. Google Fi confirms it will sell the Moto G7 - Google's MVNO mobile network, the aptly-named Google Fi, has been selling Motorola phones ever since the Moto X4 launched in 2017. The Moto G6 was added to Fi's lineup last year, and as expected, the latest entry in the G series is also coming to Google Fi.


3. Uber rolls out UI changes in latest beta app - Things may look different the next time you open the Uber app. The latest version (build number 4.249.10002) revamps a few bits of the UI to take advantage of taller screen ratios, and it makes scheduling easier. It's only accessible in the official beta channel, though.


4. Google might be building a smartwatch, according to new job listing - Ever since Android Wear was first announced, rumors have circulated about Google building its own smartwatch for the platform. Speculation about a possible 'Pixel Watch' started in mid-2018, but Google explicitly said the watch wasn't coming anytime soon. According to new job listings, it looks like the company may actually build its own wearable devices.
A job listing posted two days ago on the Google Careers site calls for a Vice President of Hardware Engineering for Wearables.


5. Google Pixel 4 could come with improved dual-SIM functionality - Google is currently preparing to launch the Google Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 Lite XL smartphones which are toned down versions of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones. As of now all we know about the Google Pixel 4 which is expected to launch in October this year is that it will be coming with Android Q out of the box. But now, new leak from the Android Open Source Project Gerrit mentions that Google is probably adding property values in its framework and Telephony service that will tell if a device has the hardware support for multiSIM functionality. But according to a new comment by a Googler the 2019 Pixel will probably have dual SIM functionality.

1. Huawei Mate 20 Pro Red color variant officially launching on January 10 - Huawei will be launching a Red color variant of the Mate 20 Pro on January 10 in China. The Chinese manufacturer launched its flagship Mate 20 Pro in October 2018 and recently announced that it sold 5 million units of the Mate 20 series. Huawei also revealed that it has topped its target and shipped 200 million units in 2018. As of now, the Mate 20 Pro is available in five color variants, including Bright Black, Sapphire Blue, Cherry Pink, Emerald Green, and Auror in China.
Huawei China on its official Weibo account revealed the launch information of new Red color Mate 20 Pro. The previous variants of Huawei Mate 20 Pro is exclusive to Amazon in India for online retail. Priced at Rs 69,990, Huawei is also selling the smartphone with Croma in key metro cities from December 22.


2. Vivo Y93 3GB RAM variant launched in India: Price, specifications and features - Vivo recently launched a new Y-series smartphone, the Vivo Y93, in India with 4GB RAM at a price of Rs 13,990. The company has now launched another variant of the same with 3GB RAM and 64GB storage at Rs 12,990. The smartphone was first launched in China featuring Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC, however, in India, Vivo released the handset with a MediaTek Helio P22 processor.
The Vivo Y93 will be available on official Vivo India website and offline retail channel in two color options of Starry Night and Nebula Purple.


3. MIUI camera app may soon include features like custom watermarks, ultra-wide angle mode - One of the better custom UI overlays for Android, Xiaomi’s MIUI comes with a lot of thoughtful features and enhancements. One of them is the camera app, which includes everything from portrait mode to filters. However, if a new report is to be believed, Xiaomi may have a lot more in store for the app.
Breaking down the APK of the camera app included in the latest China developer build of MIUI 10 and comparing it with the stable build, the folks at XDA Developers have some found numerous references that hint at new features Xiaomi may be working on for its camera app. The first of these features is ‘custom watermarks’, which will allow users to add a customized line of text (up to 15 letters) as a watermark on their photos. This line will sit below the primary ‘Shot on X’ (X being the smartphone’s name) watermark feature that many Xiaomi smartphones already have.


4. Android Q may finally bring a System-wide Dark Mode - Android Before the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop with its Material Design UI, the Android SystemUI, Framework, and most apps, both first-party and third-party, used darker colors in accordance with Holo. Since Material Design became the guiding design principle for Android, most apps have changed their UI colors to use copious amounts of white. Recently, we’ve seen Google start to offer dark themes in some of their apps after realizing that darker colors can improve battery life on devices with OLED panels. Now, it seems that Google is finally embracing dark themes once again, as a Googler states that dark mode is an approved Android Q feature.


5. The next OnePlus will come with blazing fast UFS 3.0 storage, according to leaked benchmark results - The OnePlus 6T and its teardrop notch
There are a few main factors that determine how fast and "snappy" your smartphone feels. There's the main processor, the memory and then there is storage. The storage is a pretty important one since that's where the operating system, photos, videos, apps and so on are stored permanently. OnePlus phones are notorious for their speed and it seems that the next model will not be an exception.

1. Samsung practically confirmed the 1TB Galaxy S10 phone is real - Samsung on Wednesday announced that it’ ready to mass-produce 1TB UFS 2.1 storage for mobile phone, which is a huge deal. As always with these announcements, they come just before the launch of a brand new flagship from the company. In other words, Samsung is seemingly suggesting that the 1TB Galaxy S10+ model you’ve seen featured in various rumors will happen.


2. OnePlus again becomes top selling premium smartphone brand in India during Q4, 2018 - OnePlus has emerged the best selling premium smartphone brand in last quarter of 2018. According to Counterpoint’s market survey, OnePlus captured 36 percent of the premium smartphone market in Q4, 2018, while Apple and Samsung’s market share in the same range stood at 30 percent and 26 percent respectively. All three brands collectively contributed to 92 percent of the overall premium market in Q4 2018.


3. Intel working on a 3-display foldable smartphone design, reveals patent filing - Intel might be preparing to throw its hat into the foldable smartphone race with a three display foldable design soon. This year is expected to be the first step in the introduction of foldable smartphones with Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi, LG and other tipped to introduce foldable smartphones. A new patent suggests that Intel will join them soon and offer a device with foldable display panels. The first such patent was spotted on World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published in 2017 shows an Intel device that seamlessly switches from a smartphone to tablet design.


4. Nubia could launch a wearable smartphone with flexible screen at MWC 2019 - We’re barely into 2019, and the year is already shaping up to be a really exciting one for the mobile industry. Punch-hole displays have arrived to take over notches, and smartphones with mechanical sliders have suddenly made a form factor of the past hip again, in the industry’s never ending-quest to eliminate bezels from mobile devices of the future. However, perhaps the most interesting of these upcoming ‘trends’ are foldable smartphones.


5. Redmi Note 7 Pro variant could launch with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage - Xiaomi recently launched its Redmi Note 7 smartphone in China. At the event, the Chinese company announced the separation of the Redmi brand, which will stick to only wallet-friendly smartphones. The company is now expected to launch the Redmi Note 7 Pro after the Spring Festival in February as Xiaomi already confirmed that it is working on the ‘Pro’ version of Redmi Note 7.
