1. Vivo APEX 2019 unveiled with full-screen display and no physical buttons or ports - After the notch, going button-less seems to be the next trend in the smartphone industry. Yesterday, after the unveiling of the ‘hole-less’ Meizu Zero, today Vivo has taken the wraps off its futuristic APEX 2019. Like last year’s APEX, this new smartphone is way ahead of its peers as far as the design and tech are concerned.
The Vivo APEX 2019 is a design marvel featuring a glass unibody design with curved edges and rounded corners. But the highlight is the absence of any hardware buttons or ports. We have seen manufacturers ditching the 3.5mm audio jack, and Vivo has gone a step ahead and dropped the USB port and front camera as well. For photography, there is a dual camera module at the back.


2. Nokia 5 Android Pie update rolling out with January 2019 security patch - Ever since HMD Global brought back the legendary Nokia brand into the world of smartphones, it has launched a handful of Nokia-branded Android smartphones. While that’s good, what’s even better is that the Finnish company has also done a great job at keeping its smartphones supported with relevant software updates.
To that end, HMD Global has now started seeding Android Pie, the latest flavor of Google’s popular mobile operating system, to Nokia 5. The news was announced via a tweet by Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer. It’s worth mentioning that Nokia 5 was launched back in 2017 with Android Nougat out-of-the-box, so this is the second major OS upgrade the lower-end smartphone is getting.


3. Apple iPhone portrait photography to get a new powerful editing tool called Fusion - A new photography app for iOS called “Fuzion” that would use the “TrueDepth” camera data from new iPhones and create images by blending multiple images with portrait mode shots is expected to reach iOS users this week. “‘Fuzion’ is a photo editor that lets you take your portraits and selfies to the next level. Blend multiple images and create stunning double exposures with ease,” the “Fuzion” team wrote in a post on Monday. The feature would work on the new iPhones with TrueDepth and dual camera setup, namely the iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, and iPhone XS.


4. Motorola might be working on a buttonless smartphone, patent reveals - HTC flaunted its HTC U12 with pressure-sensitive buttons, which failed to create a good hype, despite offering solid features. Now, Lenovo-owned Motorola seems to be working on a similar type of technology. The company might be planning to unveil a buttonless smartphone as a new pressure gripping system patent has been spotted on the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) website. The patented images suggest that different modules such as a touchscreen, grip profile database, touch input analysis and other modules will be clubbed together.


5. Redmi Note 7 with 48-megapixel camera sensor launching soon in India - Xiaomi has confirmed that it is all set to launch its latest Redmi-branded smartphone, the Redmi Note 7, in India. The company took to the official handles of Mi India and Redmi India on Twitter to confirm the arrival of the smartphone. Xiaomi has not exactly revealed an official launch date but it claims that the device is “coming soon”. Manu Kumar Jain, the Global Vice President for Xiaomi and the Managing Director for Xiaomi India took to Twitter adding that the company is “gonna turn this industry upside down” with the device. His tweet went on to add “Amazon #48MP is coming!”.
