So unfortunately we have to put this record up because we don't have a decent camera to record this baby's color and pattern with in relation to our breeding project. This baby's egg was checked last night around 10pm NY time with no holes or slices in the egg from the baby trying to hatch. I woke up this morning to a gecko leg stuck in a hole of its own making and it still trying to hatch on its own. I was able to see this by candling the egg as it was fully developed and pretty clear to see inside with the added pen light. I don't like videos or the idea of cutting reptile eggs open in the first place, but as I kept an eye on that baby and watched its weakening attempts to cut more slices into its egg I knew I had to do something. So I worked on gently cutting the baby out of the egg. First I freed the leg. Then the rest of the baby when I could see and realized that it was fully formed. By that time however it was very weak. When I got it fully out the poor kid had either stopped breathing or never started. This kind of experience saddens me to no end, as the baby had been fully formed and ready to hatch, but for the life of me I can't understand how it got its leg stuck through a slice in the egg that it had done. It was a beautiful baby and I wish I had woken up sooner when it started hatching to watch it and maybe help it sooner. It may have survived had I gotten it out faster. I've set this video into the gecko and educational playlist so people can understand that there may be instances when cutting an egg open might mean the immediate safety of the life inside. I can really only think of instances like this where the baby had already started hatching that one might think of cutting an egg open.

The baby was out of Flint X Narillo and had been a normal yellow brown tiger with partial pin striping. Semi hatched today (with help) 5/2/2019-and died today during hatching 5/2/2019 Rest in peace little one.
