1. Snapdeal ‘Deals of India’ Republic Day edition sale announced starts January 20 - The e-commerce offer season is here, and Snapdeal has also announced its Republic Day edition ‘Deals of India’ sale for consumers in the country. The five-day sale will kick start on January 20, and will continue till January 24 midnight.
During the ‘Deals of India’ sale, Snapdeal will be offering discounts and deals on a large collection of attractively priced TVs, laptops, home appliances, kitchen essentials and winter items, the company noted in a press statement on Friday. Consumers will also be able to avail additional 10 percent discount on SBI debit cards.


2. BSNL now offers 35GB data per day at up to 24Mbps to broadband subscribers - BSNL, the state-owned telecom player, is not one to shy away from competition. Time and again it has proven to be the most competitive telecom operator in the country and has been ahead to challenge private players including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular. In a fresh attempt to challenge Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio‘s upcoming JioGigaFiber broadband service, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has introduced a new offer for its broadband users in the country. The telecom player is now offering 35GB data per day with speeds up to 24Mbps.
The offer is applicable for both new and existing broadband customers. It claims that the new offer gives data for as low as Rs 2.18 per GB as part of this new unlimited calling pan India offer. This new plan from BSNL is priced at Rs 2,295 per month, and offers up to 24Mbps data speed till 35GB per day and up to 2Mbps speed beyond that data usage. The plan is applicable to all users except those in Andaman and Nicobar and one of the best features is the 24 hours unlimited free calling, both Local and STD, on any network within the country.


3. Google Maps ‘Speed Limit’ feature now rolling out in the US - The “speed limit” feature on Google Maps that has been confined to only some parts of the US, seems to have expanded to new areas, a media report said.
“One tipster from New York City, another from Los Angeles and yet another from Minnesota all tipped us about seeing the speed limits tonight on Maps,” Android Police reported on Friday. Although, since there have not been any major map updates recently, the reason of this feature-spread to other parts of the US is being speculated as the result of a server-side switch.
Confirmed in July 2017, the feature had only been functional in the San Francisco Bay Area in California and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. In October, Google downgraded the US’s speed limit availability from “good data quality and availability” to “approximate data quality or availability”, the report added. There has been no word from the search-engine giant as yet confirming the expansion of the “speed limit” feature on Maps across US or globally.


4. Samsung testing Android Pie for Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A9 (2018) - It looks like Samsung is going out in full force to roll out Android 9 Pie for its smartphones. Having recently started Android 9 Pie (which also includes the company’s brand-new One UI) beta test for Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8, it appears Samsung is now focusing on the A-series. According to a new report, the South Korean technology major is working on Android 9 Pie update for its Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A9 (2018) smartphones, which launched last year.
The information was initially spotted by SamMobile. According to the report, Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A9 (2018) with Android 9 Pie were recently certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. Taking into consideration the timeline that the report talks about, it looks like Samsung is right on schedule to deliver the update on time.


5. Reliance to launch e-commerce platform; will go against Amazon, Flipkart, and more - After disrupting the telecom sector with Jio and its ultra-affordable data-voice combo offerings, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is gearing up to take on the broadband space in the country with its upcoming JioGigaFiber service. However, that’s not the only project that the conglomerate has in the pipeline.
Aiming to take on bigwigs of online shopping like Amazon and Flipkart, RIL has announced that it’ll be launching its own e-commerce platform soon. To be launched in collaboration with Reliance Retail, RIL’s offline retail subsidiary, the platform will be first rolled out in Gujarat, said Reliance Industries Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani.
